We’re proud to share that TokenWorks was mentioned in a recently published New York Times article titled, A New Generation of ‘Unbeatable’ Fake IDs Is Bedeviling Bouncers.
The article discusses the increasing sophistication of fake IDs and the challenges they pose for bar owners and law enforcement.
Now, more than ever, counterfeiters are using advanced technology like holograms, laser engraving, and microprints to create convincing replicas of IDs that even fool electronic scanners.
Though law enforcement is working to deter the use of these fake IDs and apprehend the sellers, the concern remains and bar owners, in particular, are searching for ways to mitigate these risks by detecting and intercepting fake IDs at the door.
Our company was highlighted in the article as a key tool a bouncer at Playhouse Bar in West Village uses as part of a two-step system to check and verify patrons’ IDs.
Gregory Clark, the interviewed bouncer said the ID scanner is “like our own little police database” that’s helped seize dozens of fake IDs in recent months.
Our IDVisor Smart V2 was also featured in an image in the article (as seen below).
IDVisor Smart V2 is our most popular portable ID scanner and builds on our classic military-grade durability and color-coded alerts. It’s the first Android-based Age Verification ID Scanner that offers a high-performance point-and-shoot style barcode scanner, an integrated high-resolution camera and a physical keyboard along with audible alerts, customer tagging, and more.
Our ID scanner accurately and efficiently verifies IDs protecting bars from legal liabilities and underage drinking.
Note: We’d like to make a clarification as the article mentioned the equipment costs $6,500. Our IDVisor Smart V2 is only $745.
