Louisiana begins issuing new driver’s license, ID card design

On March 10, the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV) announced that it will phase in a newly designed driver’s license and identification (ID) card. Although the new design appears highly similar to the old design, the new licenses and ID cards will boast many security features and design elements aimed at preventing tampering and identity theft. Some of these features include a tri-color overlay, fine line graphic design in the background, and a “ghosted” photo image of the identification holder.

The OMV emphasized that no Louisiana citizen is required to obtain the newly designed license or ID card until his or her current card expires. They also anticipate it will take 6-8 weeks to phase in the new license and ID card distribution throughout the state, but once the new versions are fully phased in, the process and the cost for obtaining the cards will remain the same.
